IET comments on £960 million government green industries investment and major reform of power network

Commenting on the announcement, IET Head of Policy Stephanie Baxter said: “Transforming the UK energy system to be clean, secure and affordable requires integrating and optimising solutions and innovations in a rapidly changing sector, along with the skilled workforce to deliver this transformation. The changes needed across the nation’s power networks are huge and a ‘whole system’ approach, rather than one that only looks at parts of the system in isolation, is vital."

“The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) welcomes this greatly anticipated response to the Winser review, along with the Connections Action Plan and Green Industries Growth Accelerator, which address many of the key challenges for UK energy infrastructure, including regulation, local engagement, skills and outage planning.

“The IET looks forward to supporting close industry and government working to ensure that the future architecture is fit for purpose, including developing the robust engineering and technology skills pipeline needed to achieve this.”
