Ronald Douglas ‘Doug’ Finch passed away peacefully in November 2020, following declining health over the previous 12 months.
Born and educated on Teesside, Doug began his working life at 16 as an apprentice in the drawing office at Head Wrightson Ltd, a major element of the steel industry in the north of England.
He worked here for many years in various areas of this large and highly respected company, gaining his qualification as a structural engineer.
In the 1970’s he moved to take up a managerial post at Ward Brothers (now Kingspan) in Sherburn in North Yorkshire, where he worked until 1983 when he set up his own private consultancy practice in Malton, North Yorkshire; from where he worked until his retirement in 2013.
Following his retirement, he took a more active role in his professional bodies and was elected to the board of the Society of Professional Engineers, where he remained a valued active member until 2019.
