Lighthouse series - coordinating offshore energy networks

The offshore energy sector will be critical to the UK’s net-zero goals. The Lighthouse series is an IET thought leadership activity, led by the Energy Policy Panel, to provide input on how we can better understand and coordinate our national interests in offshore energy.

This series looks at the need for a more integrated approach for the deployment of offshore networks. We consider the finite offshore resources, multiple users, coordination challenges, conflicting parallel regulations, regional imbalances, and the need to develop coordinated plans at pace while maintaining the momentum of current activities.

Intended for local authorities, Government, nongovernmental organisations (NGOs), and those in the engineering, energy, and telecommunications sectors, we bring together stakeholders to answer the question:

Is there a case for a more integrated approach for deployment of offshore networks as a key infrastructure enabler for net zero and if so, and what is the best way to enable this?
