A focus on zero carbon road transport

Rail, aviation and shipping are all at different stages of decarbonisation, but road transport, especially passenger
vehicles is a maturing market. Where these solutions are available now, we can roll them out further and faster, reducing emissions in one area to help compensate for the slower journey to net zero for other transport modes.

The wider rollout of electric vehicles is still the primary target of governments around the world. But we still face challenges.

Our range of resources in road transport is designed to help engineers solve these challenges and be ready for future developments.

Will we all be riding around in autonomous vehicles in 2030? We have the research and development solutions for the engineering community to discover and develop answers to just these sorts of questions.

We also have the tools you need for the technologies that are ready today.

Sustainability and net zero policy

Drawing on the expertise within our membership the Sustainability and net-zero Policy Centre produces timely and impactful advice for government.

Our work goes to the heart of government and society addressing issues such as transmission system design, energy security, network resilience and home decarbonisation.

Read our latest reports, consultations, and updates on initiatives that influence policy for the benefit of the engineering and technology sector.

Academic publishing

The decarbonisation of transport is an important area of research.

See our transport books series for the latest developments or explore our journals and articles in the IET’s digital library on the topic of zero carbon road transport.

Practical guidance and training

Our Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation has been endorsed by the government for the safe installation of charging equipment.

Explore the Code and related titles, as well as the accompanying online training and additional courses on Connected and Autonomous Vehicles.
