Editor-in-Chief of IET journal recognised by the Royal Society

Griffiths, a Professor in the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering at UCL and Fellow of the IET and IEEE, is a world authority in the field of radar research and the leading UK radar engineer of his generation. In 2019 he received an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours for his services to the engineering profession. He has contributed voluntarily to the IET (formerly the Institution of Electrical Engineers) throughout his career, as member and chair of technical interest groups and honorary editor of professional peer-reviewed publications.

The IET’s Radar, Sonar & Navigation Gold Open Access journal, covers the theory and practice of systems and signals for radar, sonar, radiolocation, navigation, and surveillance purposes, in aerospace and terrestrial applications. 

The entire IET journals program has transitioned to fully gold Open Access as part of a publishing partnership with Wiley. The IET journals portfolio includes over 40 journals, covering a wide range of engineering and technology fields. The latest content from the IET journals is now accessible through the new IET Research hub page on Wiley Online Library.

Professor Griffiths OBE, said: “I am thrilled to have been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. This recognises the impact and importance of radar in the UK and worldwide, and I am hugely grateful to all of the engineers and scientists who I have worked with and learned from over the years.

“I have served as Editor-in-Chief of the IET’s Radar, Sonar and Navigation journal and its predecessors for more than twenty years and some of my most highly cited papers have been published in this journal. I am pleased to see this journal, alongside the entire IET journals programme is now fully Open Access, allowing researchers and practitioners around the world immediate and free access to a vast body of scientific work.”

About Professor Hugh Griffiths OBE

Hugh is a Professor in the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering at UCL and his research interests include radar sensor systems and signal processing (particularly synthetic aperture radar and bistatic and multistatic radar and sonar) as well as antennas and antenna measurement techniques. Prof. Griffiths has published over 500 papers and technical articles on these subjects. He is a Fellow of the IET, a Fellow of the IEEE, and in 1997 he was elected to Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
