Last year's reduced membership fees

Who’s eligible for a reduction?

  • Members on a career break: you can claim a 50 per cent discount off the standard rate each year.
  • Members with reduced income: if your annual income is less than £24,000 (or local currency equivalent), you can claim a 50 per cent discount off the standard rate each year.
  • Retired members: if you’re over 65, retired from paid employment and you’ve paid for IET membership for the last ten years, you can also claim a 50 per cent discount off the standard rate. You only need to apply once and it’ll be applied automatically each year. If you live in China or India, see their special rates for local currencies.
  • Students and apprentices: if you meet our student membership requirements, you’ll automatically be billed at a reduced rate of £20.00.

Reduced Engineering Council fees

If you pay a reduced IET membership rate and are professionally registered with the Engineering Council, you also qualify for a reduced Engineering Council fee.

How to claim your reduction

If you think you’re eligible, make sure you claim your reduction or refund within three months of your fee due date.

  1. Online: simply pay the reduced rate as part of your application or renewal within MyIET.
  2. Over the phone: call Membership Services and quote your membership number as well as your circumstance.
  3. By post: Write your circumstance in the payment section of your renewal notice and adjust the payment amount and total due, then send your notice and payment back to us at Membership Services, The IET, PO Box 40, Stevenage SG1 2SD, United Kingdom.
