We have recently launched five new reports across various sectors and topics to highlight important engineering challenges that impact society.

We look at the use of artificial intelligence for drug discovery, managing arc flash, the safe use of electricity whilst working from home, challenges future manufacturing engineers will face, and autonomy in the transport sector.

Our reports highlight the role engineering and technology plays in helping to solve real-world problems and the skills needed to enable this.

In late 2020, we came together with IMechE to discuss what future manufacturing engineers may look like and the key skills they need to survive and thrive.

Expert volunteers have worked together to produce a survey with relevant questions to gauge an understanding of what engineers in the sector think.

In this report, you can see the findings from this survey and recommendations for those seeking to start or continue a career in manufacturing engineering.

Advancing safety in transport through automation

The report looks at four transport modes: road, rail, maritime and air. It reviews their current approaches to safety and risk and moves on to cover the expected impact of automation on safety.

The safe use of electrical work equipment at home

This factfile provides guidance on using electrical devices safely when working from home. It highlights the responsibility of both the employer and employees to ensure and confirm that electrical equipment is provided for safe use at home.

There is additional guidance on who should perform checks and the processes that can be put in place to mitigate potential safety risks.
