National Finalists of the IET India Scholarship award is announced from a record-breaking 160,000 applicants!

The awards have gained popularity over the years as the flagship initiative by the IET in India and it has cemented the positioning of the IET India Scholarship Awards as a quest to find the country’s future engineering leaders.

This year, the scholarship award was re-launched in a digital format to coincide with our 150th anniversary.

Open to all undergraduate students – the applications came flooding in.

All applicants had to undergo an online test that examined their engineering fundamentals and problem-solving abilities. The test was created by the National Advisory Committee, comprising of some of the top names in academia.

100 of the best performing applicants from the test were chosen to take part in the regional round, where their innovation and technological focus came into play. They had to present their ideas for solving a pressing challenge faced by those in India.

This year, the problem statements drew inspiration from the societal challenges as laid out in our 2030 strategy.

From 20 – 24 September 2021, presentations were held virtually with more than 40 expert judges, judging over 100 hours of presentations from across India.

The Regional Awardees were announced live – you can catch up today.

The four Regional Awardees who won £500 each and will progress to the National round are:

• North: Deepika Kumari, from Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women
• South: Dhivakar Kumararaja Malarvizhi, from National Institute of Technology, Trichy
• East: Amrita Kesh, from Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology, Shibpur
• West: Akshata Patil, from Fr. C. Rodrigues Institute of Technology.

The National round of the competition will take place at the end of October and will see the finalists battle it out in a final presentation and Q&A session.

The final winner will be announced in November.
