Clive Seager wins the best FIRST®LEGO® League coach in the world with his team Combats Wombats

Clive was nominated for coaching the Combat Wombats since the team were five, always going above and beyond to support and encourage them and giving up so much of his free time to coach them.

On winning, he said: “The most moving part was the team’s reaction and the parents’ kind words.”

The Combat Wombats winning solution that resulted in them being the winners of the England Wales final was an innovative idea of a kerbside tunnel system that could be made from recycled materials, allowing automated delivery trucks to securely drop off parcels to reduce the environmental impact of the tricky ‘last mile’ in logistics.

“The children have worked extremely hard on their project and Lego robot design in their weekly after-school club. I am very proud of the way this very young team performed at both the regional heats and the national final, showcasing their skills among the many other strong teams taking part”, said Clive.

The team’s success, from their weekly LEGO club to winning their regional tournament to winning the England and Wales National Final to representing the UK in the USA, shows how impactful a coach like Clive can be on young people.

FLL allows young people to experience engineering in action by getting hands-on experience with robotics and designing innovative solutions to real-world problems while also showcasing how creative and innovative a career in STEM can be – and having great fun while doing so!

Well done to all the teams who participating and made their schools, and the IET, incredibly proud.
