IET celebrates award win for Best association/Not-for-profit event category

Our events team won the award for CIRED – the leading forum where the Electricity Distribution Community meets every two years in different venues across Europe.

CIRED’s purpose is to increase the business relevant competencies, skills and knowledge of professionals in the electricity distribution community, including those from the utility, product, consultancy, service business or academic sector.

The 2021 CIRED conference and exhibition was due to take place in June of that year as a physical event in Geneva, but was moved to September. When it became clear that an in-person event was not possible, our events team had just three months to turn the conference from a large-scale physical event to a large-scale virtual event.

Despite the short time-scale, the event was a huge success with six concurrent streams, tutorials, Opening Forum and a virtual exhibition delivered across four days.

It welcomed more than 1,000 delegates from across the distribution industry and as a result of being able to deliver the event virtually, over 650 authors were able to have their papers published.

The Conference and Events Awards judges said: “It was a great achievement to move such a mammoth conference to digital in three months. The scale and complexity was impressive with high sponsor engagement stats and good interaction – Well done to the team.”

Members of the team were presented with the award at a riverside ceremony at the Old Billingsgate in London by the event’s host, comedian Tom Allen.

Congratulations to all involved!
