We're looking for brilliant women in STEM!

We're marking International Women's Day by opening applications for our Young Woman Engineer (YWE) of the Year Awards, honouring the very best early-career women breaking barriers and smashing stereotypes.

The prestigious awards, which have been running for over 40 years, celebrate incredible women engineers, their exceptional work within the field, and their roles in inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.

Our former YWE winners and finalists continue to make a difference to the next generation of women engineers and pave the way for a more diverse and inclusive profession.

Ama Frimpong, Head of Product Development at 52 North and our Young Woman Engineer of the Year 2022, said: “As a young girl, I never saw or knew anyone who looked like me working as an engineer, which is why the IET’s awards are so important.

It is a great platform to be able to encourage more young people into the world of STEM, by showcasing what engineering roles involve, the diversity of the industry and the possibilities of making a real difference.”

We have a variety of awards to showcase the achievements of brilliant young women, as well as an award for anyone advocating for gender diversity in the profession:

  • The IET Young Woman Engineer (YWE) of the Year
  • The Mary George Memorial Prize for Apprentices
  • The Women's Engineering Society (WES) Prize
  • Gender Diversity Ambassador Award

Applications for these four prizes close on 3 July and will be awarded at a national ceremony on 7 December at IET London: Savoy Place.

We're looking for brilliant women in STEM who are passionate about making their mark and inspiring the next generation, showing them they too can engineer a better world.

If you or someone you know deserves recognition for outstanding work in engineering, please consider sharing this opportunity to apply today on our website or nominate a gender equality champion for a Gender Diversity Ambassador Award.
