IET wins big at the Memcom Awards
Last week, colleagues from across our marketing, communications, venues and publishing teams attended the annual Memcom Excellence Awards, which celebrate excellence in the membership sector.
After being shortlisted back in June, we are delighted to announce that we have been crowned the winners in the Best Magazine and Best Venue categories, as well as highly commended in three other categories!
Best Magazine
E+T magazine had a very successful evening after being entered into multiple categories by Redactive. Not only were they the winners of the Best Magazine, but they were awarded Highly Commended in the Best Website category as well.
The judges described E+T as having “impressive and engaging content” that is “wide ranging with specialist sections that aim to inform, influence, inspire and grow.” They also commended the magazine for its “accessibility features such as the dyslexia-friendly font, as well as it’s multimedia approach”.
Best Venue
IET London: Savoy Place also won big on the night, being awarded the prize for Best Venue. The judges were impressed by its “growth and customer service metrics” as well as “the work it is doing to help make its events truly sustainable with 100% renewable energy, zero waste policies and for their catering holding the top three-star Food Made Good accreditation from the Sustainable Restaurant Association.”
Memcom is a new platform for our venues to gain recognition for our prestigious venue in the heart of London, and we're thrilled to add Best Venue to our list of accolades alongside the IET's other wins on the night.

Best Member Engagement – Highly commended
The Membership team also received recognition for their Member Loyalty Campaign, where they sent out member loyalty packages to our members reaching 5- or 10-years’ membership. This package included a cutter card envelope detailing information about their member benefits, an IET lanyard with a membership card to wear at events, and a letter of congratulations and thanks, recognising their commitment to the IET community.
Working closely between the membership engagement and marketing team, we wanted to run a simple yet effective initiative that would reward members that have reached significant milestones in their journey with us to celebrate loyalty and increase membership engagement.
As part of this, we also encouraged our members to post a picture wearing their lanyards on social media and share how the IET has helped them to #AchieveGreatThings. We received a fantastic response to this.
Monica, one of our members, posted: “Being part of this esteemed institution has been an ongoing honour, contributing to something far-reaching and impactful”.
Another longstanding member, Jay, said: “I have had the privilege of forging meaningful connections with diverse individuals introduced to me through the IET, cultivating valuable friendships over the course of this half-decade. Appreciation to Graham Lottering & team for innovative thinking and global engagement with members”.
Grand Prix – 2nd place
As an organisation we won the second highest number of awards on the night between us at the IET, meaning we were also awarded 2nd Place in the Awards’ Grand Prix.
Alongside our wins, we were shortlisted for Best Public Awareness Campaign, with our ‘Proud to be an Engineer’ Professional Registration campaign making it to the final stages.
The Marketing and Professional Registration team wanted to engage with engineers and technicians who were not yet associated with the IET or Professionally Registered. The campaign focused on five key themes which addressed our research and met the objectives to promote Professional Registration and generated some brilliant results, including a 27% increase in recorded Chartered Engineer (CEng) leads.
Overall, it was an excellent opportunity to collaborate amongst several different teams on these projects and share in these successes together, and it’s great to be recognised for this by the Memcom Awards.
