Ashraf Ozeer  ICTTech MIET

Ashraf Ozeer ICTTech MIET, has had a rewarding career and desired to continue his growth for knowledge, decided that there was no better way to be recognised than to become Professionally Registered as an ICTTech with the IET.

Building groundwork for the future

Ashraf has built a successful career by consistently seeking new knowledge and experiences.

He began his journey as an apprentice at his father's company, where he started building the groundwork for his future.

"I have always had a thirst for knowledge, I have moved around a lot to acquire knowledge in different sectors, which included media while working for a newspaper company, BPO, and Finance," he said.

One of Ashraf’s biggest successes was working closely with the Central Bank of Mauritius on MauCAS, a nationwide initiative that provided instant payments to Mauritians.

A passion for IT

Ashraf is a Senior System Administrator at Rogers Capital Management Services LTD, based in Mauritius.

With a keen eye for detail, he ensures the seamless operation of the company's IT systems, ranging from server, networking, application support and management, and end-user assistance.

“My day starts with daily checks of the IT infrastructure. I work with a team of software developers and cater to their infrastructure needs and will act as liaison with providers,” he says.

He’s always enjoyed tackling complex problems, and because of his wide exposure to different technologies, he most enjoys taking responsibility for innovation with new ideas for the improvement of the infrastructure.

“I’ll be handling server provisioning, networking setup, and configuration. Deployment of solutions for the better handling of jobs and the handling of projects which may include deployment of a new company-wide antivirus.” he explains.

His enthusiasm for his work in IT was inherited from his father. He says, "My dad is an electronic/computer engineer and my inspiration. Even though I initially didn't want anything to do with computers, I've been exposed to the IT industry since childhood, fate and my own choices have led me back to it."

Charting the course to ICTTech

Becoming an ICT Technician (ICTTech) was important to Ashraf, who wanted recognition for his IT abilities. “I wanted to be recognised for my abilities in the IT field, and what better way to be recognised than being registered with the prestigious IET?"

He found the application process quite straightforward, remarking, "The guide given on the website is self-explanatory." He also added, “Read instructions well and be patient. The process can be tedious sometimes.”

However, sometimes he faced difficulties and had to reach out to the staff at IET for assistance. “They were always helpful and prompt in their follow-ups,” he says, which allowed him to proceed with his application. His hard work paid off, and he was successfully awarded an ICTTech title.

Registered and ready

Although some people in his home country may not be aware of the significance of Professional Registration bodies, he feels that his international recognition has given him a platform to give back to the engineering community.

“I volunteer with the IET as an International ICTTech assessor. I want to continue this path and mentor people, I find sharing knowledge to be important,” he says.

Ashraf, who has always sought new methods to advance in his professional career, is currently planning to pursue his Master's MSc in Cybersecurity. His objective has been simple yet effective: “At least minimal knowledge in every aspect of IT, recognition for my abilities – also the amount of knowledge I can share.” His unwavering determination has always kept him going.
