Cybersecurity of AI

Cybersecurity of AI: IET comments to the consultation by the Department for Science Innovation and Technology (DSIT) on 8 August 2024.

The IET has responded to a consultation by the Department for Science Innovation and Technology (DSIT). DSIT have proposed interventions, including the Code of Practice (the Code) and the intention to develop a global standard.

The IET’s overall response is that the Code is a sensible mechanism for improving the cyber security of AI systems. It appears to be most applicable to applications that are purely software based.

However, the requirements of AI systems that interface and direct physical systems do not appear to be fully considered. Further information and guidance should be given describing how this Code and the principles would be applied to other areas, for example, autonomous cyber physical systems. In particular how the stakeholder roles would be allocated and how relevant principles would be applied to applications that adapted during use with un-supervised learning.

We’re upgrading our systems, and this includes changes to our customer and member account log in, MyIET. It’s part of our big picture plan to deliver a great experience for you and our wider engineering community.
