Transferable skills

What do they look like?

They usually fall into three main groups:

  1. People skills; like the ability to communicate, motivate, mentor, lead or train people.
  2. Technical skills; like knowledge of computer programs or more practical things like being able to carry out repairs.
  3. Data skills; like research and analytical ability.

Look through recent job specifications to find out which skills are in demand right now.

Shout about them

Use your personal statement and CV to highlight your transferable skills. Bring them to the forefront to catch the employer’s eye and show just how suitable you are for the position.
