Professional Registration for the Armed Forces

We provide membership schemes and streamlined professional registration schemes for each of the Services. We aim to support personnel whilst in the Services and provide active help with their transition to civilian life.

IET Membership

You will need to have an active Membership before applying for professional registration. If you are not yet a Member, then the easiest thing to do is to apply for Associate Membership. Then, when your professional registration is successful, you will automatically be upgraded to the relevant level of Membership (TMIET/MIET)

If you’d like more information on joining, simply text IETMOD and your full name to 62277 or email join@theiet.org. Find out how much Armed Forces membership costs. The easiest way to join is to call the Join Team on +44(0)1438 767648 who be able to ensure you are joining at the correct membership subscription rate.

Once you are a Member, you will then be able to utilise membership benefits including being able to submit your professional registration application. To find out which route is right for you, please follow the links below, or if you cannot find your suitable branch, please contact armedforces@theiet.org for support and advice. Applicants who do not meet eligibility via a Defence Engineer Registration Scheme are able to apply directly to the IET.

Membership and professional registration fees

This year’s annual membership fees for Armed Forces members as well as the latest Engineering Council fees.
