Gaining Professional Registration in the Royal Marines

Which criteria are right for me?

RM Officers (Direct Entry)

Officers of minimum rank Major with proven capability in at least two technical SO2 appointments underpinned by either an accredited technical Master’s Degree or equivalent technical Master’s level learning.

RM Officers (Late Entry)

Officers of minimum rank Captain who have demonstrated CEng competence including underpinning knowledge though Artificer, Foreman or Yeoman specialisation service, completed three years in technical engineering roles as a commissioned officer and hold either an accredited Master’s Degree or equivalent Master’s level learning.
An accredited Bachelors’ degree with honours in engineering or technology, plus either an appropriate Masters’ degree accredited by a professional engineering institution, or evidence of additional learning to Masters level;

OR

An accredited integrated MEng degree;

OR

Clear demonstration to the satisfaction of the IET achievement of the same level of knowledge and understanding as the above. Examples of training and experience leading to the same level of personal technical contribution are required.

That’s why they’ll consider your application if you don’t meet the above requirements but can prove you have the same level of knowledge and understanding.

IEng - expand to view the relevant criteria

Hold the substantive rank of at least Colour Sergeant in the RM in an engineering or technology supervisory trade;

AND

Have completed a Technical Engineering Appointment in the substantive rank of Colour Sergeant, post completion of training, for at least 2 years.
An appropriate Bachelors’ degree in engineering or technology. A degree accredited by Engineering Council is ideal, but most reputable Bachelors’ degrees in engineering or technology are acceptable;

OR

A Higher National Certificate or Diploma or a Foundation Degree in engineering or technology, plus evidence of appropriate additional learning, including work-based learning;

OR

Clear demonstration to the satisfaction of the IET achievement of the same level of knowledge and understanding as the above. Examples of training and experience leading to the same level of personal technical contribution are required.

EngTech/ICTTech - expand to view the relevant criteria

Hold an NVQ L3 qualification in their trade or otherwise demonstrate competency as an EngTech/ICTTech.
Completion of a programme leading to NVQ L3;

OR

A suitable qualification at QCF3 (or SCQF or EQF equivalent) or above;

OR

Clear demonstration (to the satisfaction of the IET) of achievement of the same level of knowledge and understanding as the above. Examples of training and experience leading to the same level of personal technical contribution are required.
