Volunteer Engagement Board (VEB)
Purpose
To be responsible to the Board of Trustees for the planning and implementation of the IET’s volunteer engagement strategy.
To provide assurance to the Board of Trustees concerning the effective delivery of strategic programmes as delegated by the Board of Trustees.
To monitor the performance of strategic programmes as delegated by the Board of Trustees.
Term

Commitment
Three meetings per year, and adhoc virtual work in between meetings.

Young Professionals Committee (YPC)
Purpose
- Undertaking projects to address key issues that impact young professionals.
- Showcasing role models that young professionals can aspire to.
- Provide platforms and opportunities for young professionals to build their personal networks.
- Contribute to content that young professionals will find interesting and useful.
- Improve communications to young professionals on the platforms that they like to use.
Term
Three years.
Member specification
IET member.
Young Professional (i.e. aged under 30 when joining the Committee).
New members are appointed based on a skills matrix to ensure there is the right mix of skills and experience across the Committee, so this varies each year.
Some of the key traits preferred are:
- Passionate
- Team player
- Culturally sensitive
- Collaborative.
Commitment
Three physical meetings each year, two of which will be in the UK, but one is always held in another region.
Nine conference calls each year using video conference technology.
Contributing to projects the committee are working on, including additional conference calls, conducting research or writing proposals, as appropriate.

Annual.
The application deadline is variable each year but will usually be in early April.

Email stating your interest in joining the committee along with your CV and a covering letter.
Applicants will be asked to complete a self-assessment on a skills matrix.

Communities Resourcing Committee (CRC)
Purpose
The Communities Resourcing Committee is the overarching group responsible for leading the work of the IET’s volunteer communities around the world, including its Local and Technical Networks.
The Communities Resourcing Committee:
- facilitates communications between all communities
- ensures that the work the communities do is aligned to the IET’s strategy
- allocates resources to the communities
- monitors the communities’ performance.
Term
Three years (or four if a member is co-opted for a year before their regular tenure).

Commitment
Pre-Covid: A maximum of three full-day meetings per annum, and adhoc virtual work in between.
However, at present, we are taking a “little and often” virtual approach and will review it in the future.

Communities Committees (CC)
Purpose
- to support communities activities in the region
- to facilitate effective communication between communities in the region and the sharing of best practice on community matters.
The Communities Committee supports all IET communities in the region, whether geographical, technical, demographic (e.g. age-related) or otherwise.
Communities Committees (CC) include:
- CC-United Kingdom (CC UK)
- CC South Asia (CC SA)
- CC Asia Pacific (CC AP)
- CC Americas (CC A)
- CC Europe, the Middle East and Africa (CC EMEA).
Term
Three years (or four if a member is co-opted for a year before their regular tenure).
Member specification
IET member
For CC-UK, committee members must have experience past or present with serving on a Local Network committee.

Commitment
The number of meetings required by each Committee will vary, but all Committees make effective use of technology to conduct as much business as possible virtually.
In addition, it is expected that Committees will wish to meet physically, up to a maximum of three times per year.
