How new graduates can ensure they’re ‘work ready’

What are you lacking?

Many employers complained that their graduates are extremely unprepared, lacking even basic skills like:

  • Reading electrical symbols
  • Putting together schematics
  • Understanding how transformers, motors and control systems work
  • What fuel sources for generators are
  • Basic circuit theory
  • Power system analysis
  • How power electronic converters operate

How to catch up

When it comes to the basic skills you can start by going back and hitting the books. Revisit the work from the start of your course and refresh your memory. If you find there are still some holes in your knowledge then head to the library, find the relevant books and do some self-study.

We can also help you enhance both your soft and technical skills through courses and e-learning. Mentors can also offer support and guidance along the way.

Before starting your first job, do some work placements or a year in industry. Nothing helps you to learn faster than getting stuck in with hands-on work.

One of the biggest things you can do is to acquire real-world work experience.
